4 Healthy Snacks That Keep You Going

Do you find yourself fighting the urge to catch some Z’s under your desk at work? Tempted to grab another cup of coffee or hit up the vending machine for a candy bar just to keep going? We’ve all been there. But there are a lot of snack options that can fill you up, boost your energy, and give you the nutrients you need like fiber, Vitamin C, good carbs and more! So the next time you start to reach for the potato chips to keep you going, consider these 4 healthy snacks instead.

Whole grain crackers with hummus. Whole grains boast complex carbohydrates, which are some of the best energy boosters around. They also fill you up but don’t make you sluggish. Hummus adds fiber and olive oil (a healthy fat!) to the mix, which can help with hunger pangs.

Yogurt. Planning a workout after work? Yogurt is a quick and easy snack to grab and go, and it gives you a more substantial energy boost you can burn off at your local gym. Lactose is good for energy, and protein slows down absorption, so your energy stays up and you stave off hunger longer. Just stick to plain nonfat yogurt, and if you want to sweeten it up, stir in a dab of honey and some berries.

Almonds. Almonds are a perfect healthy boost to keep you going. They’re packed with good fats, which can help you stay feeling full. They’re also loaded with fiber and nutrients that keep your energy level elevated even through a workout. Grab about an ounce of almonds (think one Altoid tin) and snack away!

Half a banana or one apple. Low in calories and carbohydrates, fruit snacks like these offer natural sweetness that takes longer to metabolize than sugar you’d get from a candy bar. These fruits have Vitamin C, antioxidants and fiber, which gives you an energy boost and a little help with muscle function. The potassium helps with cramps, too. And these snacks are naturally portable!
