Teammate Announcement

Team -

It has been nearly 5 months since I joined all of you at this amazing business.  During that time, I’ve primarily focused on two areas:

  1. Observing how we operate and gaining an understanding of the needs of each of our club locations; and
  2. Evaluating alternative strategies that can help us improve results to better position us for growth.

It is clear to me that we need to increase our investment at the club level to drive results, grow membership and better position Fitness Connection to positively impact lives in our local communities.  As we drive results and grow membership, this will enable us to more aggressively open new locations and expand the reach of our business.  Given the magnitude of this change, it shouldn’t be a surprise to any of you that this is a significant investment.

With that said, today we are announcing a restructuring of the Team Support Center (TSC) and a reduction in staff.  Our goal is to focus investment at the club level, closer to our members, and to help fund that investment it is necessary that we reduce spending at the TSC. Therefore, effective immediately, Trever Ackerman, Carl Helmle, Fenn Hall, Gregory Friedman, Roosevelt Tyler, Greggery Wasemiller, and Justin Smith are leaving Fitness Connection. Please join me in thanking them for their many positive contributions. We wish them well in their future endeavors.

With this change, Josh Harwood will step into the role of Chief Operating Officer. Josh is one of the founders of Fitness Connection, bringing 30 years fitness experience. He has a strong passion for all facets of the business having started and spending 2 years as salesperson before moving into Sales Manager, General Manager, and Multi-Unit Operator roles. He has served in a variety of leadership roles including Chief Operating Officer of a consulting firm he helped start that focused on pre-sales for new club openings as well as managing fitness chains. Josh will speak more about his go-forward role at the May Kick-off meeting today.

In addition, we will soon add a Chief Marketing Officer. More information about this new role will be shared in the coming weeks.

I know that you have questions.  Each of your respective Executive Team leaders has scheduled team meetings today to help answer any questions you may have.  And as always, you can reach out to me directly.

Below is our updated Executive Team structure and associated areas of responsibility:

As you have heard me say from my first day at Fitness Connection...” from change comes opportunity” …and I truly believe that making this change to increase investment at the club level will drive a positive change for Fitness Connection.

Chief Executive Officer
