With the days getting longer and the sun setting sooner, you won’t have to deal with its harsh effects on your skin. Autumn is the perfect time of year to take some extra care of your epidermis. It may sound shocking, but we’ll dive into why working out is GREAT for your skin. Time To Get Skin-timateIt’s no shock to anyone reading this that exercise is good for you (see all our other blogs). It can improve heart health, lower blood pressure, and help battle depression, along with a myriad of other amazing benefits both mental and physical. Another benefit? Exercising helps keep your skin healthy!Your skin is the largest organ in your body and does a bunch of cool things for you such as:

  • Regulates body temperature
  • Provides a waterproof barrier for our body
  • Allows us to feel hot and cold
  • Guards against toxins and germs
  • Protects you from the sun

You’re Totally SkinLet’s get to the heart of the matter and start explaining why exercise is so important for skin health. First of all, exercising cleanses your skin! It helps increase blood flow throughout your entire body. This in turn nourishes your cells to keep your skin vibrant. Blood flow also helps carry the bad away from your skin including free radicals and other microbial waste. Secondly, it helps reduce stress. While we may think that’s just a mental benefit, studies have shown that increasing amounts of stress also have negative outcomes on your skin, including increased acne and wrinkles. By exercising, you’re lowering stress which can help alleviate skin conditions!Thirdly, we know that mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell and they make up a lot of what your skin is. As you age, the mitochondria start to break down which causes you to look older. Exercising has been shown to help stall these changes to help keep you looking younger. (And let’s be real, if you’re exercising, you’re also going to FEEL younger.)Fourthly, we have mentioned the benefits of sleep in a previous blog. With regular exercise, you get a better night’s rest and lower blood sugar which has a direct effect on skin aging. A full 7-9 hours of sleep is ideal for a better complexion. The SkinnyBody, mind and now skin. There’s almost nothing that exercise can’t help you with.
