Uplifting Black Voices In Fitness

Fitness is not just about working out; it’s about creating a community. At Fitness Connection, we believe that connection is at the core of our mission. We know that Black people have been historically underrepresented and marginalized in health and wellness.Our goal is to create a space where everyone can feel seen, heard and valued. That’s why we’re excited to celebrate Black History Month by showcasing influential Black fitness professionals who have helped shape the health and fitness industry. From celebrity trainers to activists, these inspiring people have broken barriers and paved the way for others in their field.

Kathy Stanford Grant

Kathleen Stanford Grant was a pioneering figure in the world of Pilates. She studied directly under Joseph Pilates, founder of the Pilates Method, and went on to teach Pilates for more than 50 years. A dancer, choreographer, arts administrator and teacher, she dedicated her life to bringing joy and energy into every aspect of her work.

Toni Carey

Toni Carey is the co-founder of Black Girls RUN!, an organization that works to encourage Black women to become more active and find joy in running. What started as a small group of friends has now grown into a nationwide movement with over 200 running clubs across the United States.

Leroy Colbert

Leroy Colbert was a true pioneer in the world of fitness, accomplishing things that had never been done before—and all while breaking down barriers for people of color along the way. He was among the first men of color to grace the cover of bodybuilding and strength magazines. His dedication to training and nutrition was unparalleled, and his achievements continue to inspire athletes all over the world today.

Koya Webb is an internationally recognized yoga teacher, celebrity holistic health coach, author, speaker and podcast host on a mission to promote self-love and make healthy living a priority in a fun and accessible way.
